About the Book

A stranger once asked –
“What do you grow in Anderdon Township?”
Without blinking an eye, Paddy replied –
“Men, Begorai!”

Anderdon is about life on the Detroit River frontier, told from the pages of local newspapers, personal journals, military records and court transcripts.

Covering the pioneer era from the creation of the Huron Reserve in 1790 to 1920, these stories tell of neighbourly folks, but also epic adventures, confidence men, notorious villains, and battlefield glory.

You will encounter three cultures sharing the bounty of the land - First Nations, European settlers and African communities.

Printed in large format, the text contains over 100 images plus genealogical information, newspaper accounts and rare maps.

Included is a map (18 by 24 inches) of Anderdon Township created in 1877 which shows the location and ownership of homesteads.
